Connecticut Announces New Funding to Support Educational Safety
Fit for school – On Thursday August 6, 2020, Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont announced an additional $160 million in funding to assist schools with costs associated with responding to COVID-19 and support local operations for the 2020-21 academic year.
The Coronavirus Relief Funds will complement the $15 million already committed from the Governor’s Emergency Education Relief Fund (GEER) and $111 million from the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) Funds, bringing the total funding for Connecticut schools to $266 million – one of the largest PK-12 state funding plans per-student in the country[1].
Lamont stated over 50% of the funding will go to purchase cleaning supplies and personal protective equipment, or PPE. He said the next biggest piece is related to staffing districts might need to bring into the classroom if older teachers are unable to return to the school building. He said some of the school districts also will require additional bus monitors[2].
According to reports, about 55% of the schools want to reopen full time and about 45% are planning to open using a hybrid model of both in-person and remote learning2.
Lamont said the funding proves the state is putting their money “where our mouth is to make sure you get back to school safely.”
At Infinity Group, we design and create beautiful workspaces for commercial clients. Using that expertise, we are also doing our part right now to help schools return safely.
Specifically, we are working with school leaders to source and install the acrylic and felt desk dividers they need to keep teachers and student safe while working together during in person learning.
Not just fit for school, we have installed dividers for commercial clients during the pandemic, and we can get the best pricing for educational institutions as well.
Divider Basics:
- Dividers can be installed by our expert team quickly.
- They can fit into any space with any current furniture package.
- Dividers can easily be moved if needed to adapt to changing needs.
We also have fantastic design strategists that have created custom return strategies for commercial clients and would be happy to speak with any school, free of charge, with no obligation to purchase anything.
